how does laser hair removal work?

Smooth skin after laser hair removal

Laser hair removal uses the power of a concentrated laser beam that passes through the skin, targeting hair follicles. The pigment within the hair follicle absorbs the light, which causes damage to those follicles. This process slows hair growth, and prevents hair from growing back in the treated areas.

THE BENEFITS

The laser will only target the hair follicles, and does not cause damage to your skin
To protect your skin and minimize any discomfort, we use a high-powered cooling device, called a Zimmer, which provides concentrated cold air which helps our clients sustain a reasonable comfort level throughout the treatment
Our laser device treats numerous hair follicles at once, which significantly reduces your total treatment time
Although you should avoid sun exposure to the treated areas, there is typically no downtime associated with the procedure

THE ADVANTAGES

Laser hair removal has longer-lasting results than other temporary hair removal methods such as waxing, shaving, electrolysis, threading, tweezing, or plucking. The laser uses a wide tip that treats many hairs at once instead of treating hair-by-hair like tweezing, plucking, or electrolysis. Large areas, such as the back or legs, can be treated in a very short period of time. This hair removal treatment is a safe, fast, gentle, and effective method for permanent hair reduction.

faq

How many treatments are needed to see results?
After your first treatment, you can expect a noticeable reduction in the amount of hair. You will likely need 6-8 treatments before you experience permanent results. Because hair growth occurs in several stages, the laser light beam only targets the ANAGEN stage, or the “growing stage,” which is why it’s important to have several treatments to ensure complete hair removal. Your treatments will be spaced at least 4-6 weeks apart, depending on the area being treated.
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE MY TREATMENT SESSION?
If you are planning on undergoing laser hair removal, you should limit plucking, waxing, threading, and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment and also during the course of your treatment. You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment, as sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely. Immediately following laser hair removal, it’s important to use a minimum 30 SPF sunblock on any of the exposed treated areas for several weeks after.
