Signs of Aging in the neck
The support structures in the skin weaken, causing a loss in elasticity. In addition, fatty tissues under the skin become depleted and partially move toward the bottom of the face. Facial muscles may also cause wrinkles, changes in facial contour, and the development of vertical neck bands.
Muscle bands may form as a result of the regular use of the platysma muscle, with the vertical lines marking the muscle edges. Excess fat deposits may be caused by hormonal changes in the body, while the appearance of brown spots may be a sign of sun damage, health issues like obesity and diabetes, or genetic factors.
Wrinkles may develop as a result of decreased skin elasticity and the normal, everyday use of facial muscles. Over time, the skin is depleted of collagen and elastin, which are fibers that help keep the skin supple and full. Making repeated facial expressions can also cause frown lines and crow’s feet to appear.
In addition, patients with large submandibular salivary glands or a very low set hyoid bone (the wishbone), are more likely to develop a prominent accumulation of fat and skin.

Who is a Candidate?
A necklift is a good option for patients who do not have jowling, facial skin laxity, or signs of aging in the cheeks or eyes. Patients with a “weak chin,” low-set hyoid bone, or thick and ruddy skin may not be well-suited for a necklift.
Patients should have appropriate expectations, understand the limitations of the procedure, and be emotionally and psychologically healthy.
